Does the greenhouse effect occur naturally?

The greenhouse effect is actually a normal occurrence in the atmosphere of Earth. In fact, this makes the planet a livable place since the so-called “greenhouse gases” are composed of the organic gases such as carbon dioxide, oxygen, nitrous oxide, methane and several more. Without them, the Earth’s temperature could have been cooler or even freezing.

Changes in gas concentrations have increased significantly since the period of industrialization because of the various human and industrial activities that caused an increase in the emission of carbon dioxide, as well as other greenhouse gases. Some of these activities are deforestation, coal-mining, burning, etc.

Therefore, when we discuss about issues on the greenhouse effect, it should be understood that these are concerned with the modified greenhouse effect that has continually changed during the entire course of its history.

This modified greenhouse effect is often called “anthropogenic greenhouse effect,” which implies that the abnormal phenomenon happening in the Earth’s atmosphere that is caused by the continuous production of “greenhouse gases” by the humans.

The scientists consider this anthropogenic greenhouse effect as harmful to the human society since it severely affects the ecological structure and the climate of the world. People experience extreme weather conditions due to this – famine and strokes across the equatorial countries due to tremendous heat, and deaths caused by severely cold weather in the countries away from the equator, even if it still not wintertime.

To set the record straight, the “normal” greenhouse effect enables the world to become a livable place while the “modified” greenhouse effect can bring harmful consequences to the world.
