Cut Down Carbon Footprint in Your Company

Guidance, a company that supports and designs technology solutions and business applications, has released some guidelines to help other companies assess their carbon footprint. This project is part of the company’s mission to function as a carbon-neutral and environmentally aware company in 2009.

Guidance suggested forming a group, which should consist of 12 people (six men and six women), to lead the company’s environmental endeavours. The group’s members should have the talent and passion to lead green duties and the knowledge about different environmental subjects.

The company should have a mission statement. This statement should set a goal that employees can easily understand. The company should identify particular objectives at every phase, if possible.

The company needs to evaluate the use of non-renewable resources and employ strategies for eliminating or reducing their consumption. It is also recommended to assess business-associated carbon emissions, such as those from computers, peripherals, air conditioners, printers, light bulbs, and the like. The group in charge of environmental duties should start using alternative forms of transportation and should encourage their colleagues to do the same.

The group can put recycling bins in open areas and attach on it information about what things are recyclable or not. The company must have a list of recycling centres that deal with special recyclable materials, including computers, batteries, cell phones, and other electronic products, and schedule a bimonthly or monthly recycling day.

The company should offset their carbon footprint residue by providing financial assistance to a reforestation project or buying Renewable Energy Credits (RECs).
